General Assembly

Teri and I just got back from the General Assembly of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church. It was in Detroit and I can tell you it was not near as hot there. It was low sixties at night - glorious! Anyway, General Assembly, for those of you new to Presbyterianism, is the highest court in our system of government. It meets once a year and ministers and ruling elders from each church are invited to attend.I am glad to say that in God’s providence we are in a blessed place. At our General Assembly no one debates the veracity of the Bible or the Virgin Birth of Jesus. No one was trying to question the necessity of the atoning work of Jesus or the fact that there is only one “way, truth and life,” and that is Jesus. I sometimes take this for granted and you most likely do too. Do not. Be very thankful that we are in a denomination where the things we argue and fight over are not “Essentials” of the faith; but are things that do not involve salvation or Orthodoxy.Anyway, we are home and though I enjoy seeing all my pastor friends from San Francisco to New York City, guys who I dearly love and whose stories I love to hear, I can tell you, there is no place like home! Hope to see you Sunday.Blessings,Jim
