Eating and Drinking with Jesus

I have often commented on food when teaching and preaching, and often people look at me like I have two heads. When people do question me in depth, I tell them to do one thing. “Go read the Bible and underline every time food is mentioned. When you get through reading the Bible, looking particularly at the subject of food, you may not understand what food means, but you will be convinced it is a huge thing in the economy of God!’

So, while a have resisted spending an extended period of time on the subject matter, I will not do that any more. For the next six weeks we will talk about food in a series called, “Eating and Drinking with Jesus.” It is about the meaning of food, how God uses food, and how it is the major point where, no matter what race, creed, color, or nationality you are, you can always connect with another image bearer of God over food.Food is both a necessity (we must eat three times a day to live) and it is a revelation (we see more and learn more about the goodness of God in a common meal than just about any other endeavor). There is no need to try to be more spiritual than God! When God was incarnated in a body so that he could save the world and make all the bad things come untrue, the scripture sums up in one sentence how this savior of the whole world came. You ready for it? You sure? Here is it:"The Son of Man came eating and drinking…"If it was good enough for Jesus, it is good enough for me! For the next six weeks we will talk about it.Bon ApetiteJim
