The Cross and Self-Control
When our children were little, the Bible verse that seemed to surface more than any other was Proverbs 25:28. I don't know how many times I have heard Teri quote this to one of our children. "Like a city whose walls are broken down, is a man who lacks self-control." The imagery is clear enough, is it not? To live in a city without walls in ancient times was to be utterly defenseless and doomed. Looking back, it seems like so much of our parenting was trying to teach our children to control both their spirit and their passions.I think the same is also true with adults. I think most of the spiritual problems we face come from an inability to control passions and feelings. You see, you are never free if you can't control passions and feelings. If you can't, then you are in fact a slave. The Bible never teaches us to kill passions and feelings, nor does it tell us to deny them, rather it says to properly order them under the gospel of Jesus.Easier said than done! Join us Sunday as we discuss this very difficult but vital subject.Blessings,Jim
