Christ the King Sunday

In the Christian Calendar, the Sunday prior to the beginning of Advent is designated as Christ the King Sunday. This ancient holiday is typically overshadowed in our part of the world by Thanksgiving (also a very Biblical observance) and the opening of deer hunting season (maybe a bit less so). But that’s ok. There are only 52 weekends in a year and it’s hard to get all of the celebrating in that such a wondrous existence merits! For those who are interested, Christ the King Sunday serves as the capstone to ordinary time, which we’ve been observing since Pentecost. It’s a bit like a New Year’s Eve, wherein we get to bask in the triumph of King Jesus through his Church before starting the Story all over again. This Sunday we’ll be wrapping up our Jonah series, and hopefully, stand amazed that God can take even a grown man’s hissy fit and use it to point us to His perfect glory in Christ our King.PS. We’d love to have you stay with us after worship this week to “deck the halls” for the Advent season!- Josh
